FAQs

What should I make first in my new Instant Pot? ›

When it comes to breaking your Instant Pot in, it's a good idea to start with some basic foods and simple meals you're already familiar with, then slowly expand your Instant Pot repertoire from there. Try making staples like eggs, sweet potatoes, rice, or lentils using just the pressure cooker function.

Is an Instant Pot worth it for a single person? ›

It doesn't take up too much space

But if you're tighter on storage, Instant Pot also makes a 3-quart Duo that is more than large enough to cook a meal for one person (and it's cheaper!). So no matter how small your space is, you should have room for this cult-favorite cooking device.

What to do with Instant Pot before first use? ›

Before first time use

Clean the pressure cooker with a sponge using a mild detergent or soapy water and 2 or 3 drops of vinegar, before using for the first time. Any oil adhering to the cooker will yellow and harden if it is exposed to heat before the oil is cleaned off and will be difficult to remove.

What is the minimal liquid for Instant Pot? ›

Your Instant Pot needs liquid to work. If there's not enough, your pot won't be able to create enough steam to build pressure. About 1 cup is the minimum amount of liquid, so if you're cooking a recipe that will absorb water, like rice or beans, you'll need even more.

Can you pressure cook meat without liquid? ›

No steam is created: Water is necessary to create steam, which builds up pressure in the pressure cooker. Without water, there is no steam to build up pressure, and the cooker will not function properly.

How much water do you put in a pressure cooker for meat? ›
